Envoy Journal #2: Shadow Tour

October 18, 2011 (Tuesday)

Shadow Tour

I am sure you are all wondering what Shadow Tour is all about? Well from the words 'Shadow' and 'Tour', you can already figure it out. Shadow is what follows around and Tour is looking around something has yet to be seen.

Discard the first paragraph. This shadow tour was something I was looking forward to. I was anticipating what it would be like to give a tour to anyone. This was an opportunity to learn from the masters of touring.

We were told (those joining the shadow tour) that the meeting place was in the lobby at 1030am. Luckily when I was going down I saw Drop, but then when we got down he left his ID and had to go back upstairs. So I was alone in the lobby for awhile until Dan came. After a while we meet up with everyone. There were 3, including me, who was joining: Me, Dan and Diane. We all waited in front of the entrance of the mCAD, they debriefed us on what would transpire and at the same time just 'chilling'. It was around 11-1130am when the Lasallians from Greenhills came, I was expecting parents and a great number of them, instead we found ourselves looking at 3rd year students. They separated them and also gave them colored stickers so that they, and also the tour guides, wont get lost in the groupings.

There was one elevator which was reserved for this occasion. It brought all 3 groups up to the 12th floor of the SDA. Since we couldn't all fit in one elevator we had to separate our (Drop and I) group, I went ahead with the first half. We waited for them and so to keep them interested I showed them the view from the 12th floor. I showed them where AKIC was and what kinds of facilities they have (though I wasn't super sure so I only said what I knew). When the rest of the group came up, Drop formally started the tour. We first went to the Caf, they liked the fact that they can see the faculty area from the caf. Then we went to the cinema. If I were to make this really detailed, this will take FOREVER. I mean it. Anyway, Drop asked them if they preferred using the elevator or the stairs and unanimously said the 'Stairs'....dundundunduuuun! Well being a Benildean, who is always in SDA, you would have to have taken the stairs, maybe majority if not for some. And it wasn't such a big deal since it was going down. We skipped the 11th floor, since it is just a floor full of computer lab though Drop mentioned the Mac store. In the 10th we went to the green room and passed by the room wherein they lend the camera/video. After that we headed to the 8th, wherein we passed by room where the Fashion makes dye and sews. The boys were so funny especially when they saw the mannequins, I leave that to your imaginations. After, we brought them to the commons and to the library. Some of the boys are really interested in comics....too bad we didn't go inside the library. Next stop was the recording studio and the black box. It was my first time inside the recording studio, I have always been wanting to go inside. It was truly remarkable, I can not believe I go to a school who has their own recording studio! Last stop was the theater and Industrial Design workshop. When Drop made them sit down and told them they were suspended on air, I was amused. That is something I want to learn, how the engineers make such things happen, especially with the amount of load it would carry. Anyway that is construction for you, something I have yet to learn.

By the end of this tour, I have learned quite a lot. Though I may say, SDA is easy to tour because I am always in the building seeing the same things, passing thru the rooms. Still, I learned many things form Drop. Interacting with the audience is much better than a formal one, though it would depend on the audience, I suppose.
