God's Love

Why do we love?
- "We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen" 1 John 4:19-20
          - We learned how to love because God loved us first
          - God is the one who taught us to love by creating us and giving up His only son, Jesus
- "Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." 1 John 4:7-8


God's Love, Our Security
- Worldly thing will not last forever. Think about it, when we leave this world will we be able to bring our material things? 
- "yes, this is what the LORD Almighty says: “I will send the sword, famine and plague against them and I will make them like figs that are so bad they cannot be eaten." Jeremiah 29:17
          - This passage means that we should not be insecure
          - We must be able to face the problems God sets in front of us so that we can strengthen our faith and live our lives for God's kingdom. After all this world is just a testing ground, what we should be aiming for/striving to reach is the Kingdom of God. A place wherein no sadness, no hatred and fear will ever touch us, only the glory of God embracing our souls.


Eternal Life
- "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." 
- "This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." 1 John 4:9-10
          - All the verses seems to be the same....they ARE the SAME. The new testament speaks about God's Kingdom on earth and in heaven also God's love, glory and salvation for human kind. 


- Why must we pray to God, shouldn't He know what I need?
     - We pray to God so that we can be aware of what we need
     - God knows what we need but we must understand why we need them by praying to God
     - It also creates a stronger relationship with God
     - By communicating with God blessing will overflow


- "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?As it is written:
   “For your sake we face death all day long;
   we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:35-39
          - God's love is always present but we should not abuse this
          - All things has consequences, so that we can learn from the mistakes we make and grow

EQUATION:
Forgiveness + Security + Salvation = God's Love

Questions:
1. How did God show His love to me?
          - Big and small blessings: My friends and the opportunity to live in this time. For answering my prayers, like giving me the scholarship something I never knew I could possible get.
          - Creating me.
          - Helping me in times of need: He was there when I needed someone the most. There are times that I would cry to Him, tell Him all the things that hurts me, my sins and my shame then He would give me comfort, peace and answers. He is the reason why I am still standing. I stand on solid ground, God's solid ground.
          - If I didn't know God, I would be in great trouble, I would be in constant pain and sadness.
2. How can you show God's Love to others?
          - My actions: I am always concern for my friends....always.
          - Prayers: Though it can not be seen, I hope that others will feel the presence of God, changing their lives for the better
          - Words: Saying things that will speak the truth despite hurting someone's feelings. I would rather see them hurt because of the truth rather to have them stumble because I didn't do anything. If that happens, there will be a part of me that will always regret not saying anything.
          - Persistent in learning more about God: Though I must say, I am failing this part, I have to try harder. I do not want to miss something important in God's kingdom especially now that so many things are happening in our world.

Youth Service #1: God Is Love

God Is Love

"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God." 1 John 4:7

Faith, Hope and Love. But the greatest of these three is LOVE.

How can we say that God is love?

1. Fear vs. Love

- Fear is the absence of Love

- "God's perfect love drives out fear"

- "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love." 1 John 4:18

2. Forgiveness vs. Love

- "Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him." 2 Corinthians 2:7-8

          - We should stay away from too much sadness and giving up completely from our destiny

          - Despite the sorrow and anger that someone has caused me, I must learn how to forgive and instead love that person. How can I say I love God but despise my neighbors? I would be called a hypocrite, and that is what I hate the most in this world, hypocrites (even though I can be one as well, when  it happens I tend to hate myself for being one, making me over think and trying to change my actions and thoughts).

3. Motivation vs. Love

- What motivates us to love? 

- "If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing." 1 Corinthians 13: 1-3

- "Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves." Psalm 127:1-2

          - There are times when I do certain things to gain something....something useless compared to the sacrifice Jesus made. That is why I have to always think if what I am doing will benefit for the people around me and for the kingdom of God. I don't want to love someone and have different reasons for loving that someone. I do not wish to gain anything but hopefully they would see the love of Jesus and not from me.

4. Jesus

- God's ultimate love for us

- "What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?" Romans 8:31

      - If we follow the way of Christ then no matter what trials we face we will be able to overcome them because God is with us.

- "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

- "This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." 1 John 4:10

          - Amazing. How else can I describe it? God gave His only son, His ONLY son. Would I be able to do something like that as well? If only I had Abraham's faith then maybe so but with a heavy heart. God had promised to Adam that a redeemer would come, and that the redeemer will restore the relationship of man and God. 

God Is Love. 

- Love comes from God

- Love is God  Love can never define God because no earthly or heavenly words can describe how great He is.

How can I show God's love to others? 

          - Changing my ways to the ways like Jesus in order for others to see the love of God. 

          - My actions and the words that comes out of my tongue should be that of a child of God. 

Attempt #2: Waterfalls and Trees

The Elements of Nature

I colored this with Faber Castle water color pencils (my professor will kill me if he knew!). I had a hard time with making the rocks look 3D and putting more curves to the branches. I also have to learn more on hos to draw water. 

I have others drawings, I just need to paint them. Hopefully you will see some improvements. 

Attempt #1: Starters Sketches

Hands

Ever since I was young I was fascinated with drawing hands and so I kept drawing them, in different positions, so that I can be satisfied with it. Though one thing about sketching, especially if you are an amateur sketcher, you will never be satisfied with your work. I can improve on this, especially my shading. 

Tree

I use to draw trees like a broccoli or rather a cotton candy, with circular shapes. But due to my professor he showed us another way of creating the outlines of the tree. 

Lola's Chair

While waiting for a good show on the television I decided to sketch one of my Lola's chair. I love how the metal twist and the old design of the metal frame. 

7 UP Please!

We were at Mercanto and it was so hot there so I bough 7 UP. I just decided to try sketching it, which turned out to be a failure. It is not proportional and I darkened the background too much so you can not see the can so much. 

Just did this today (8pm). I wanted to do bushes with snow on top of them but I got distracted with the television so my idea just went away. I will still be working on this. 

Activity 8: Pavilion (Finals)

PAVILION

CONCEPT: LIGHT

CONCEPT: LIGHT

Definition

      - Natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible

      - Having a greater rather than lesser degree of lightness

Definition made by group:

      - Weight - A measure of the heaviness of an object

      - Brightness

      - Space

      - Illumination - To provide or brighten with light

IDEA OF SDA

        - Geometric - Composed predominantly of simple geometric forms, such as circles, rectangles, triangles etc.

        - Spacious

        - Massive - Large or imposing, as in quantity, scope, degree, intensity, or scale

        - Modern

IDEA OF THE GROUP FOR PAVILION

·         First Idea:

The group first proposed to use a trapezoid and a square as the base and top part of the pavilion and then twist the two shapes in order to create an edgy surface

Certain parts of the pavilion will have openings that will be covered with glass.

·         Second Idea:

The group wanted to use curves but with the use of edgy planes and an opening for the top part of the pavilion

This concept was inspired from the first idea with the use of the same shapes a trapezoid and a square.

·         Third Idea:

 The group thought of using objects found in the SDA and incorporate it on the pavilion:

- Pencil: The pencil is the most used writing material used by students in the SDA.

- Mouse: The mouse has a sleek and clean look and represents innovation and technology within the SDA.

-  Hands: The hand is an important part of the body that students use in order to make their ideas turn into reality.

The group then decided not to use objects but instead something where the students get all their ideas and creativity from. So, the group thought of using a heart or brain.

-  Heart: The heart is what triggers the drive and inspiration of the students. It also shows how the students place their belief and hard work in their projects

-  Brain: The brain is where all our ideas come from. It is the coordinating center and power source of everything we do.

The group then chose to use the brain as the concept for the pavilion.

BRAIN AND THE PAVILION

·         Parts of the Brain to be integrated to the Pavilion

Spinal Cord 

-  Entrance of the pavilion from the street

- The spinal cord is what speeds messages to and from the brain

-  Made of a bundle of nerves running up and down the spine

Frontal Lobe

-     Ground floor with seats for socialization and a ramp with exhibits on the side of the wall

-     Associated with reasoning, planning, parts of speech, movement, emotions, and problem solving

Thalamus

-   The Second floor will have a Cafe in the morning, but at night the cafe will turn into a bar. The ramp will be found in the right with advertisements on the side, but can be change into an exhibit area if needed.

 -   Almost all sensory information enters this structure where neurons send that information to the overlying cortex

Hypothalamus 

-   The third floor will include a garden which is also open for people who want to smoke.

-   People can also have shows or presentations in this area

-   The structure is involved in functions including homeostasis, emotion, thirst, hunger, circadian rhythms, and control of the autonomic nervous system

EXTERIOR OF THE PAVILION

·         Inspiration:

-   The facade of the pavilion will be shaped as neurons.

-    Neurons look bundles of spider webs put together.

-    Neurons are nerve cells that transmit nerve signals to and from the brain

·         Ground Floor (Entrance)

-  The entrance should look like nerves or veins all bundled up together

-   Represented as the Spinal cord

·         Ground Floor

-   The ground floor is where students can pass through in order to get to the SDA building and they can also sit down on the seats and socialize with other students.

·         Second Floor

   The second floor has a ramp on the right side and a bar/café on the left. The café shifts into a bar at night with the use of the cabinets.

-   The entire third floor is a garden where students and faculty can socialize and enjoy each others company.
